Vivo Review S1 Pro – stylish Quad Camera Smartphone

Gadgetsiana.com - The latest vivo Smartphone, Vivo S1 Pro, is officially present in Indonesia by offering hardware specifications and attractive camera capabilities.

From the specification side, this smartphone carries the Snapdragon 665 combined with 8 GB of RAM. While for the battery, this device comes with a large capacity of 4,500 mAh.

Not to forget, Quad Camera support or four cameras behind it are one of the mainstay features of this device as it has a large-resolution main camera reaching 48 MP. With the features it offers, does vivo S1 Pro compete with other middle-class devices?

Design

Following the current trend, Vivo S1 Pro comes with full screen plus a water drop shaped bangs. While on the back there are 3D arches on the left and right so comfortable when gripped. The rear body also has two colour  options, which are Glowing Black and Crystal Blue which produce attractive colours when exposed to reflections.

For the record, I get a vivo unit of S1 Pro that has Glowing Dark colour.  Altho  the rear body has a beautiful colour,  the dust and smudge stains are easy to paste, so it's best to pin additional cases available in the sales package.

Still on the back, there are four rear cameras inside the Diamond Shape, making them look unique. Switching to the bottom, there is a USB Type-C Port and a speaker hole. Towards the top, there is a 3.5 mm audio jack Port.

Next, on the right side is the volume and power buttons are arranged vertically while on the left is a SIM and microSD card slot.

Screen

The display of the device has a width of 6.38 inches with a resolution of Full HD + (2340 x 1080 pixels), Super AMOLED technology, and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 that fills the front.

Just above the screen is water droplets shaped bangs that serve to store the front camera. Eye Protection features have also been imbedded  in this product which can protect the user's eye from the blue light radiation generated on the screen.

To save more battery, Vivo S1 Pro is also equipped with Always on Display feature which will display the clock, date, battery capacity, and notification of the application when the screen is at rest.

Camera

Equipped with Quad camera, Vivo S1 Pro has a 48 MP main camera configuration, a 2 MP secondary camera, an 8 MP Super Wide-Angle camera, and a 2 MP Ultra-Macro camera. Super Wide-Angle cameras allow users to produce photos with a wide area of up to 120 degrees.

The main camera is capable of producing photos with a resolution of 48 MP which has good detail. While the combination of the main and secondary camera is capable of producing bokeh photos (background blur) instantly. For Ultra-Macro cameras, it can produce photos from a range of up to 4cm which is suitable for miniature photos, flowers, small toys, and much more.

There is also the AI Scene Recognition feature that can smartly determine the best Scene when an object is being shot using its rear camera. Moving to the front, there is a 32 MP camera with an AI Beauty feature that can produce selfies or wefie with a smooth face.

The Pose Master feature has also been presented in this product to support poses when the user does a selfie to look good. The following is the result of a back and front camera photo from Vivo S1 Pro. (Touch all images to get the actual resolution).

Performance

From the hardware sector, Vivo S1 Pro has supplied with Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 Octa-Core chipset, 8GB RAM, and 128 GB of internal storage claimed by Vivo capable of delivering powerful performance to run applications or games.

To prove the claim, I also run daily applications ranging from phone, SMS, music player, email, social network, document editor, and video player. As a result, vivo S1 Pro is able to run these applications smoothly without lag thanks to the presence of RAM 8 GB.

Continuing to test heavier, I ran the game Call of Duty: Mobile, PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends, and Final Phantasy  XV Pocket Edition. These three games can be run with high graphics and frame rate seamlessly.

While Final Phantasy  XV Pocket Edition can run smoothly only up to standard frame rate and intermediate graphics options. But it is advisable to use the lowest graphics and frame rate to make the character movement more optimal.

Lastly, I also perform performance testing using the AnTuTu Benchmark v 8.0.4-OB, Geekbench 4, and Geekbench 5 applications. As a result, this smartphone is able to get a high AnTuTu score which reaches 179,774 points.

While on the Geekbench 4 testing, Vivo S1 Pro gained a performance that achieved 1,504 points for Single-Core testing and 5,685 points for Multi-Core testing. While on the Geekbench 5 testing, the device got a score that reached 313 for Single-Core and 1,414 points for Multi-Core.

Of all these tests, it is apparent that vivo S1 Pro is able to compete with other middle class smartphones in Indonesia.

Battery

The resources of this smartphone are intrusted  to a battery with a capacity of 4,500 mAh. With this capacity, Vivo claimed that the battery was able to survive a full day in normal use, 11.8 hours to play games, or 15.4 hours to play the video.

To prove the claim, I ran the PCMark for Android application with a battery condition ranging from 100%, brightness level 50%, and Work 2.0 Battery Mode that will simulate daily usage activities.

The results of this one product managed to get a PCMark for Android score that reaches 17 hours 11 minutes. This shows a very long vivo S1 Pro battery life.

Thanks to the use of AMOLED technology, VIVO can imbed  fingerprint sensors inside its screen. Interestingly, this fingerprint sensor can detect my fingerprint in a responsive so that it is able to quickly open the lock.

This Smartphone allows up to 5 different fingerprints to be read by the fingerprint sensor. Not forgetting, the feature of Face Unlock has also been imbedded  in this product that allows the use of a lockscreen only using a face only. When I directed the face to the front camera, Vivo S1 Pro instantly detects it and locks the screen.

Even in low-light conditions, this Face Unlock feature is able to recognise  my face quickly. This can happen because the screen brightness level is enhanced for the face to be scanned by the camera. In addition to unlocking smartphones, fingerprint sensor and Face Unlock can also open the app or folder locked with the built-in features of Funtouch OS.

Funtouch OS 9

The Smartphone has been equipped with a modified operating system Funtouch OS 9 based on the Android 9 Pie operating system that has an interface and ikon  similar to that of iOS. Moreover, the Notifications menu is separate with Quick Settings, where we can access the notification menu when swiping from the top of the screen.

While sweeping the screen from the bottom up, the Quick Settings will open. By default, the Funtouch OS 9 has no drawer so the installed applications will be automatically located on the home screen. In addition, you can uninstall applications directly from the home screen.

When you slide the home screen until you go to the leftmost part, a Jovi Smart Scene will show you the weather, news, tips, app shortcuts, and more.

Furthermore, I myself often use the mainstay features of Funtouch OS 9 such as 3-finger screenshots, dual-split multitasking, and App Clone. I can quickly take screenshots on this device by simply swiping from the bottom of the screen using the 3 fingers.

For dual-split multitasking, I was able to run two apps at once in one screen. So that we can activate the feature of this one it can sweep the screen from top to bottom using the 3 fingers that are loaded. Lastly, App Clone allows me to run two social media accounts at once as the app can be cloned into two.

Conclusion

After using it for a few weeks, I think vivo S1 Pro is able to support daily activities, especially with long battery life and powerful performance thanks to the combination of Snapdragon 665 and 8 GB RAM.

While the internal storage is also relieved to reach 128 GB so I can save many apps, games, photos, documents, music, and videos at once. The rear body design is also quite appealing, but the dust and stains of fingerprints are easy to stick, so we recommend using the additional cases available in the sales package.

The combination of the four rear cameras presented on this device makes me able to create a variety of interesting photos. Not to be missed, fingerprint sensor that is present on this device is able to respond to my fingerprint quickly.

With the capabilities it offers, I think vivo S1 Pro can be one of the choice of smartphones in the price of Rp 3,999,000. Altho  this one product is not equipped with the NFC (Near Field Communication) feature at all.
